Oven Roasted Broccoli = Favorite Go-To Side Dish!

If I was ever forced to choose only one vegetable to eat for the rest of my existence it would hands-down be broccoli… and most likely in the form of this oven roasted broccoli recipe!

Maybe it is the fact that I grew up dousing broccoli in Cheez whiz, or that the little broccoli florets look kind of like trees, but whatever the reason, broccoli is the tastiest vegetable out there.

And this honey roasted broccoli recipe is the absolute BEST way to make it!

Roasted Broccoli Recipe Saves the Day!

You know those weeknights when you don’t feel like cooking but you also know that if you order takeout you will probably either A) eat too much, B) eat not-so-healthy stuff, C) eat too much not-so-healthy stuff.

Well this oven roasted broccoli recipe is here to save the day!

A simple sauce of butter/oil, gluten-free soy sauce (or liquid coconut aminos!), honey, and crushed garlic combine to give this roasted broccoli recipe A TON of flavor.

All you need to do is whisk together your sauce ingredients, toss your chopped broccoli in a large 1-gallon bag, add the honey sauce, and give it a good shake.

In under 10 minutes your broccoli is ready to roast in the oven!

How to Roast Broccoli?

For over 10 years I thought the only way you could really cook broccoli was to either steam it or sautee it in a skillet.

Then one day I was a bit lazy and decided to pop the broccoli in the oven.  Do you know what happened?

The broccoli got super crisp and crunchy on the outside and had the most incredible flavor!

But how do you make roasted broccoli?

The best way to make oven roasted broccoli is by placing it on a large baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper.

Feel free to use aluminum foil if that is what you have on hand!

How Long to Roast Broccoli?

There is no exact science when it comes to roasting broccoli, but I have found that the following results in the best roasted broccoli recipe:

  • Turn your oven up to a pretty high temperature.  (The oven is set to 425 degrees in this recipe.)
  • Roast the broccoli for about 15 minutes.

If you roast your broccoli at a high temp and rather quickly, you will get super crisp roasted broccoli that is out-of-this-world delicious!

Can You Roast Frozen Broccoli?

For this particular recipe you will want to use fresh broccoli and not frozen broccoli.

While yes, you technically CAN roast frozen broccoli, it will definitely be a bit more soggy and not quite as crisp as fresh broccoli will be.

If that is all you have, bring the frozen broccoli to room temperature, pat dry, and then proceed with the recipe from there.

How Can You Evolve this Honey Oven Roasted Broccoli with Garlic Recipe?

While this roasted broccoli recipe is already gluten-free, dairy-free, Paleo, and low-carb, there are a few changes you can make:

  • Gluten-free soy sauce, Tamari, and liquid coconut aminos can all be exchanged for each other in equal amounts.
  • Feel free to use maple syrup, agave nectar, or liquid stevia in place of the honey.
  • Add a bit of hot sauce or Sriracha sauce to give this roasted broccoli recipe a kick.

  1. This looks delicious! I am going to make this tomorrow for someone who is lactose intolerant, should I use 4 tbs of olive oil (to replace the butter)? Thank you for your advice and thanks for sharing! Your blog is great and so appreciated!

    1. Hi Jessika! So sorry for the delayed response – but yes, 4 T. of oil will work just great! Hope it worked out well for you 🙂

  2. If I want the broccoli softer for my young son, do you have a suggestion as to time and temperature I could use to modify? Thanks 🙂

    1. You can always just bake them about 3-5 minutes longer until they are to your desired tenderness. No need to change the oven temp!

  3. I made the roasted broccoli and everyone loved it. Even my vegetarian daughter who is a picky vegetarian lol😂👏

Delicious! I used Bragg’s Liquid aminos for gluten free. I used a dash of salt also, but it didn’t need any added salt. I also wanted to avoid using a plastic bag, and just added my broccoli to the bowl of the sauce and mixed it up in the bowl, worked great! Thanks, I will be making this again 🙂

    1. Love the small tweaks you made to the recipe, Fiona! So happy you enjoyed the recipe. Thanks for your comment and rating 🙂
